Victor Gomez on Heat Pump Innovation and Cold Climate Performance
In a recent interview with Green Builder Media, Victor Gomez, CEO of Samsung HVAC North America, discussed how heat pump technology is transforming the way we heat and cool our homes especially in cold climates. Gomez highlighted how today's air source heat pumps, powered by inverter-driven compressors and smart controls, can now operate in extreme cold – down to -22°F – eliminating the need for fossil fuel backups. With options for ducted, ductless, and retrofit installations, Samsung is addressing a wide range of home needs, including older homes that can't accommodate traditional systems.
He also shared insights on Samsung's SmartThings platform, which unifies home energy management through smart home technology from HVAC to appliances while responding to utility peak demands, promoting both comfort and energy savings. Looking ahead, Gomez previewed two new systems:
- Eco Heating System: Provides heating and hot water in one solution, ideal for full home electrification.
- Hylex™: Designed for retrofits, it allows homeowners to upgrade cooling now, with a path to full electrification later.
Gomez emphasized Samsung's broader mission: to deliver comfort through cold climate heat pumps, improve energy efficiency, and support sustainable living.
